Anti-Ageing Skin Care Routine | How To Slow Down The Ageing Of Your Skin

Written by Jordan Caulfield & Reviewed by Paul Holmes.
Introduction
As I've become more mindful about how my skin changes over time and as I get older, creating a consistent anti-ageing skincare routine has become a key part of my daily self-care.
After spending years in the skincare and wellness industry, it’s apparent that more and more of us are embracing the idea of ageing gracefully. Not by completely haltering the ageing the process which is inevitable, but by supporting our skin with the right habits, nutrients, and products to slow the visible signs of ageing for longer.
Throughout this blog, I’ll be sharing my personal skincare routine, why each step is important, and how an array of both supplements and skincare essentials help to keep my skin feeling and looking its best.
A Bit About Me
I currently work as part of the content team at Naturecan, but have spent over 7 years in the health, wellness and beauty industry. Spending lots of time in skin clinics, classes and different wellness events all over the UK!
So aside from content creation, skin care and health has become not only an interest, but a passion of mine. Aside from work, my main passions are cooking and fitness. I go to the gym regularly, and love finding new recipes to help aid my wellness goals and cooking for my family.
Although I am definitely a foodie and still appreciate the deliciousness of ‘unhealthy’ foods and love to eat out at new restaurants and try new things, it’s all about balance! I also love to travel and go to music festivals, especially during the summer months.
As a 25-year-old approaching the 26-year mark, I have started noticing changes in my skin. It doesn’t bounce back like it used to, and has a lot more texture and inconsistencies, likely from sun damage and free radicals. Therefore, I have put my all into finding the perfect anti-ageing skincare routine to help give my skin all the nutrients it needs to stay hydrated and help me age gracefully.
So let’s get into it, we will get into the nitty gritty of the main causes of ageing skin, my daily routine, and also other ways to help keep your skin happy and healthy.

What Are The Most Visible Signs Of Ageing Skin?
Let’s start with the most tell-tale signs of ageing and what we’re looking to slow down. The most common visible signs of ageing include:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loss of firmness or sagging skin
- Dryness and rough texture
- Dullness or uneven tone
- Dark spots and hyperpigmentation
- Skin hollowing
These changes in skin texture and causes of ageing are caused by a mix of factors like natural collagen loss through ageing, prolonged UV exposure, dehydration, inflammation, and oxidative stress. But, with the correct products and information, it is possible to slow this process.
My 5-Step Skincare Routine
Step 1 - Cleanser
Cleansing is the foundation of any skincare routine. It doesn’t directly impact or work to reverse signs of ageing as such, but keeping your skin as clean as possible, and clear from any pore blockage or dirt buildup, creates the perfect canvas.
I use a gentle, hydrating cleanser each morning and before bed to remove dirt, excess oil and impurities. This helps keep my pores clear and also allows my skincare products to melt into the skin and absorb properly.
Consistency is key, and starting an anti-ageing skincare routine on clean skin makes a big difference in overall skin tone and texture.

Step 2 – Supplements
This is where my skincare goes beyond just surface level. I am a big believer in the power of supplementation and looking from your body inside to support skin health.
Every morning, I take a targeted trio of supplements that work to look after my skin from within, and help with a wide variety of other wellness goals:
- Resveratrol: This antioxidant rich supplement works to help protect your skin cells from oxidative damage, which is a catalyst for wrinkles and dullness [1]. It’s also been linked with improved skin elasticity and collagen levels.
- CoQ10 Capsules: Coenzyme Q10 is important for energy production at a cellular level and works to neutralise free radicals. It’s also been found to potentially support the skin’s repair process and help reduce fine lines over time. [2]
- Hyaluronic Acid Capsules: Hyaluronic acid is well-known for its water-retaining abilities, making it extremely hydrating. Taking it in capsule form helps hydrate your skin from the inside out, making it more important as our natural levels decrease with age.
When taken together, these supplements work together to provide a noticeable difference in my complexion, making me appear more hydrated with better skin resilience.

Step 3 – Collagen
Collagen is the protein naturally produced by our bodies that gives our skin structure and firmness, and on average we lose roughly around 1% of it each year after our twenties. Which is why Collagen Peptides are a staple part of my daily routine.
Naturecan’s collagen is completely flavourless, so I typically mix it into smoothies, soups or even my morning coffee. It’s powder form stirs in to hot or cold drinks with no lumps, and doesn’t alter the flavour whatsoever. It’s hydrolysed for easy absorption and supports skin elasticity and hydration, potentially helping to reduce fine lines and improve overall skin quality.
Even if you have a hectic lifestyle and spend most of your time on the go, I would always recommend adding collagen to your water bottle to up your daily intake, it really makes the difference.

Step 4 – Serum
For that extra boost of nourishment and post-cleanse glow, I always use Nutri-Glow Facial Oil with Marula. I apply it in the evening or sometimes in the morning before my moisturiser.
It’s lightweight, fast-absorbing and makes my skin feel instantly softer. I suffer a lot with hormone-induced dry cracked skin around my mouth, this oil helps soothe redness and hydrate targeted areas for a smoother complexion.
Not only this, but it is packed with skin-calming botanicals and essential fatty acids. Marula oil in particular, is great for protecting the skin barrier and calming inflammation. When my skin feels dull or sensitive, this is my go-to.

Step 5 – Moisturiser
No skincare routine is complete without a deeply nourishing moisturiser, and for me, it’s Hydraburst Face Cream with Q10. As someone who suffers with combination skin, it can be difficult to find a moisturiser that hydrates dry patches enough, without causing greasy skin.
The Hydraburst face cream has been my holy grail in the search for the perfect moisturiser, it’s enriched with CBD and antioxidants, helping combat free radicals whilst keeping my skin smooth and hydrated with no sticky feel on my skin.
The blend of nourishing ingredients like Q10 and hyaluronic acid in this cream work together to plump the skin and lock in moisture. Another important step after locking in moisture to mention is SPF. I have noticed a significant difference in my skin since incorporating a daily SPF, it appears more glowy and radiant.
Sun blocker works to protect your skin from the pollutants in the air, not just UV rays, meaning it should be a staple part of your skin care routine every single day - rain or shine. Not protecting your skin from damage of pollutants and free radicals is what can lead to skin ageing, and also an overall more dull complexion.

Supplements And Skincare Products: The Perfect Combination
The benefits for your skin really happen when you combine supplements that work internally, and topical products for your skin barrier. Supplements feed your skin internally to receive the nutrients it needs to regenerate, repair and stay supple.
Topical skincare products protect the outer layers and target specific, visible concerns like dryness, dullness or fine lines.Since I started pairing these together and using it as a solid daily routine, my skin not only looks better – it feels better too.
Ageing can’t be completely stopped, we all age at some point, but it can be prolonged, helping you look younger for longer and feel more confident in yourself.

Other Ways To Look After Your Skin
A solid skin routine is powerful, but it doesn’t end there, there are many other causes of ageing aside from not following a strict self-care routine. Here are a few other things I do to support my skin every day:
- Drink plenty of water – I personally aim for at least 2 litres a day.
- Eat a balanced, nutrient-rich diet – with plenty of healthy fats and antioxidants.
- Use SPF every single day – even on cloudy days.
- Avoid smoking and limit alcohol – both dehydrate and age the skin.
- Get enough sleep – ideally 7–9 hours a night.
- Move your body – exercise supports circulation and reduces stress.
- Facials and skincare treatments - Unfortunately, I still suffer from breakouts and skin dryness. Treatments such as microneedling and chemical peels really help when I feel like my skin needs and extra bit of TLC.
Conclusion
Looking after your skin isn’t about chasing eternal youth, it’s about feeling confident, comfortable and radiant as you age. My anti-ageing skincare routine has helped me embrace ageing as I move into my mid-late twenties.
You can never look after your skin too early, and your complexion and body will thank you for it! By combining premium supplements with skincare, I’ve created a routine that works for me and makes my skin feel great.
And with Naturecan’s trusted products at the core of it, I know I’m using ingredients backed by science and nature alike.
