CBD and better sleep - Can CBD help with healthy sleep?
Good quality sleep is one of the building blocks of good health. It allows the body to rest, recover and prepare for the next day. However, statistics show that many people struggle to get enough good quality sleep.
35% of US adults and 71% of UK adults report sleeping less than seven hours a night.
Moreover, 50-70 million adults in the US (5-6% of the population) have sleep disorders, which are conditions that make it difficult to fall or stay asleep.
The most common reported medical sleep disorders are insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD).
With sleep disorders becoming more common, more and more people are looking for ways to improve their sleep. CBD is a natural alternative to help with occasional insomnia. Some studies have suggested that CBD may be effective in supporting healthy sleep and allowing the body to feel relaxed.
What are the possible causes of sleep disorders and how can CBD help?
Sleep problems can be caused by a range of physical, mental and environmental factors, including:
- Pain or discomfort
- Stress, anxiety or depression
- Respiratory difficulties or allergies
- Alcohol or caffeine
- Medication
- Medication
- Shifts
- Excessive noise or light
Although research on CBD and insomnia support is still in its infancy, some studies suggest that CBD may help reduce a number of physical and mental causes that may contribute to sleep problems, such as pain, inflammation, stress, anxiety and depression.

Different stages of sleep
There are four stages of sleep. Stages 1 to 3 are known as non-REM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep, and stage 4 is REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Each night our brain goes through these four stages several times. Each stage gets longer and sleep gets deeper with each cycle.

DISCOVER MOREPossible CBD effects and sleep?
CBD is known to affect the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS), a cell-signaling network that keeps the body in balance by regulating mood, pain, sleep and other processes.
Scientists believe CBD supports the ECS by preventing enzymes from breaking down endocannabinoids (cannabinoids produced by the body), allowing them to have a greater effect.
By indirectly supporting the function of the ECS, CBD may play a role in supporting sleep, while some studies have suggested that CBD may also reduce factors that may contribute to poor sleep, such as pain and anxiety.
Can CBD be used as an alternative to feel rested in the morning?
As we have seen, there is evidence that CBD can have a calming effect on the body and promote sleep. This suggests that it may be an effective alternative to help with healthy sleep;. If you have a pre-existing medical condition or are taking prescription medication, ask a medical professional before using CBD products.
What is Melatonine?
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the brain that regulates the body's sleep/wake cycle. Melatonin levels rise at night when it gets dark to prepare the body for sleep, while exposure to bright light inhibits melatonin production.
Sleep problems can be caused by overexposure to artificial light at night and by too little exposure to natural light during the day - both can disrupt the body's sleep/wake cycle. As we age, we may also experience more sleep problems because melatonin production naturally decreases as we age.
What is Melatonin used for?
Melatonin is known to shorten the time it takes to fall asleep2. Therefore, melatonin supplements are often used to help with jet lag3, insomnia and other sleep disorders.
What is a normal dose of melatonin?
Although there is no standard dosage for melatonin, we recommend a maximum of 1 mg per day. Always check the country where you live, as the recommended maximum dosage may vary.
Possible side effects of melatonin
Melatonin is considered safe for short-term use. Unlike other sleep supplements, melatonin is not associated with dependence and does not produce a hangover effect. In some users, however, it may cause mild side effects, such as headache, lightheadedness, dry mouth and daytime sleepiness. In addition, melatonin may interact with certain medications, so consult your doctor before use.
