Black Friday is the biggest sales day in the United States and is held the day after Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November). Since its inception in the mid-20th century, it has spread to many countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, India, Norway and France. It is often considered the busiest shopping period of the year.

The term 'Black Friday' was first used by police officers in the 1950s to refer to the day between Thanksgiving and the annual Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia. When large numbers of shoppers and tourists came to the city for the game, they created chaos and traffic jams, forcing local police officers to work long shifts instead of taking time off. This led the police to call the day 'Black Friday'. There is another reason why the name 'Black Friday' is linked to the Thanksgiving period. In the United States, shopkeepers used to write down their account details in books, with profits recorded in black ink and losses in red. When shops made losses they were said to be 'red', and when they made profits they were 'black'. Regardless of how they fared for most of the year, many stores "turned a profit" the day after Thanksgiving, as customers took advantage of discounted merchandise and sales increased.

Black Friday starts on the last Friday of November. This year it is the 28th. This year Naturecan's Black Friday sale will start on Sunday, November 23rd

Although Black Friday traditionally lasts only one day, many stores have now extended their sales to cover the whole weekend, and some even the whole of November. Cyber Monday, which is considered an online version of Black Friday, is a 24-hour online shopping event that started in 2005. This year, Naturecan's Black Friday sale will start on November 23 and end on Cyber Monday, December 1.
